“I commissioned Eleanor Bell to help provide technical expertise and experience to the refurbishment of Northumberland’s Kielder Skyspace in 2018. Eleanor designed, installed and programmed the new digital lighting and control system in the Skyspace, working closely with James Turrell, myself as Curator, and Kielder Art & Architecture that raised and managed the funding for the project.

“I first met Eleanor when she came to speak at a Women’s Institute meeting about her interest in sculpture with light that lead to her obtaining an electrical qualification. Several months later, when looking at a very dark area of our hallway I remembered the talk and contacted Eleanor to install a light display on the wall.
After saying ‘by the way can you do something with the lights in the lounge …’ this led to us getting a full electrical check of the house so that we are now fully certified. The work carried out involved crawling in loft spaces, down the inspection pit in the garage as well as the more normal places where cables can be found. As a consequence we have more effective and economical lighting throughout the house as well as the security in knowing ‘anomalies’ in the older wiring have been corrected.
